Creating Brighter Beginnings
In the remote Otuke District, where access to healthcare is scarce and maternal mortality rates are high, our partnership with the Kristina Health Centre ensures that more women receive the care they need. Your visit to our studio does more than create a personalised piece of jewellery — it creates brighter beginnings for mothers and newborns who would otherwise go without essential care.
In Uganda, 16 women die each day due to pregnancy and childbirth complications. With no other health facilities within a 72km radius, the Kristina Health Centre (KHC) was established to provide essential medical care for expecting mothers in the Otuke District. Since its opening in 2012, KHC has provided thousands of maternity care appointments, delivered lifesaving antenatal and postnatal care, and equipped midwives with the resources they need to ensure safe births.
Yet, challenges remain. Many women in rural Uganda lack the means to travel to healthcare facilities or are unaware of available services. KHC's outreach programs work tirelessly to educate communities, increase access, and encourage mothers to attend vital maternity appointments. Today, the average mother at KHC attends only 4 appointments during her pregnancy — our goal is to help raise this to 8.
